Extra Scapes is built differently — by design.

We are fully licensed, multi-disciplined, and certified well beyond what’s typical in the landscape and outdoor construction industry. This allows us to design, manage, and execute complex outdoor projects with a level of professionalism, accountability, and technical oversight that most companies simply cannot offer.
Extra Scapes holds both commercial and residential general building licenses, including a GB98 Commercial Builder’s License and a GB2 Residential Builder’s License, enabling us to legally and properly manage structural construction, hardscape systems, outdoor structures, and integrated outdoor environments at the highest level.
We also maintain an MS06 Plumbing License, which is critical for projects involving irrigation, water features, drainage systems, outdoor plumbing, and pool-related infrastructure — ensuring these elements are designed and installed correctly, safely, and to code.

In addition, Extra Scapes holds multiple professional licenses through the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA), including 3A, 3B, 7A, and 7B classifications, along with a Plant Reseller’s License. These credentials allow us to responsibly source, handle, and install plant material while meeting state regulations for plant health, soil safety, and environmental compliance.

Founder Bio

Travis LaBarge

Extra Scapes is locally owned and operated by Travis LaBarge, a lifelong Albuquerque native with deep roots in New Mexico and a multi-generation background in landscaping and outdoor construction.

Travis grew up immersed in the landscape industry, learning firsthand what separates average work from craftsmanship that lasts. That early exposure — paired with a natural eye for design, structure, and problem-solving — laid the foundation for what Extra Scapes would eventually become: a design-first, detail-driven outdoor construction firm focused on building spaces that are both visually refined and intelligently engineered.

While attending the University of New Mexico, Travis founded Extra Scapes and later graduated from the Anderson School of Management with a Bachelor’s degree in Business (Entrepreneurial Studies). Rather than leaving the industry behind, he chose to elevate it — applying formal business training, professional systems, and higher standards to a field that too often operates without them.

ith more than 20 years of hands-on experience, Travis brings a rare blend of design vision, technical expertise, and construction oversight to every project. His background spans landscape design, advanced hardscaping, drainage strategy, irrigation, lighting, plant selection, outdoor living spaces, and complex site problem-solving — allowing him to see projects holistically, not as isolated components.

Today, Travis personally oversees both the design and construction of every Extra Scapes project, remaining closely involved from initial concept through final execution. This hands-on leadership ensures continuity, precision, and accountability at every phase — and guarantees that what is envisioned on paper is built correctly in the field.
